The Reformed Church in America

The Reformed Church in America is one of the oldest Protestant denominations in North America.  It was founded in present day New York City by Dutch settlers in 1628.  The Reformed branch of Protestantism has its roots in the Reformation in Europe in the 1500's.  Its primary spiritual leader was John Calvin in Geneva, Switzerland, whose reform movement spread to Scotland, where it became the Presbyterian Church and to Holland, where it became the Dutch Reformed Church.  The Reformed Church in America today includes people from a wide variety of ethnic cultures and religious backgrounds.  We believe ourselves to be a people called by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world.
